Glass Effect

What is Glassmorphism?

Glassmorphism is a popular user interface (UI) design trend that emphasizes creating a translucent, frosted-glass aesthetic. It helps establish visual hierarchy and depth by allowing background elements (like colorful shapes, images, or gradients) to subtly bleed through the foreground elements.

Key Characteristics of the Glass Effect:

  • Translucency: Uses a semi-transparent background color, heavily relying on the alpha channel in RGBA hex codes.
  • Background Blur: Powered by the CSS backdrop-filter: blur() property, which blurs everything strictly behind the element.
  • Subtle Borders: A faint, semi-transparent border is applied to mimic the physical, light-catching edge of a pane of glass.
  • Floating Shadow: A soft drop-shadow establishes the element's elevation and separates it from the background layer.

Frequently Asked Questions

The CSS backdrop-filter property only blurs the elements behind your glass element. If your glass element is placed on top of a solid white or plain background, you won't notice the blur. Glassmorphism requires a colorful, textured, or dynamic background (like a gradient or an image) behind it to be visible.

Modern browsers (Chrome, Edge, Safari, Firefox) widely support backdrop-filter. However, older browsers like Internet Explorer do not support it. It is highly recommended to include a fallback background color (e.g., slightly less transparent) for browsers that cannot render the blur effect. Our generator automatically includes the -webkit-backdrop-filter prefix to ensure maximum compatibility with Safari.

When you select "Tailwind Class" from the dropdown, the generator outputs a string of utility classes using Tailwind's arbitrary values syntax (e.g., bg-[rgba(...)]). Simply copy the output string and paste it directly into the class="" attribute of your HTML element. Make sure you are using Tailwind CSS v3.0 or higher for arbitrary values to work correctly.
